Healthcare Leadership Academy Selected for MassChallenge Boston 2019 Accelerator

The Healthcare Leadership Academy Africa today announced that it was selected to participate in the 2019 MassChallenge Boston accelerator program.

Rigorously selected by a community of close to 200 expert judges, Healthcare Leadership Academy represents the top 9% of applications from around the world, including 61 countries and 25 U.S. states.

Through a global network of zero-equity accelerators, MassChallenge identifies the world’s highest-impact, highest-potential startups and helps them successfully launch and grow. As part of the 2019 cohort, The Healthcare Leadership Academy will have unrivaled access to expert mentorship, top corporate partners, and more than 20,000 square-feet of co-working space all at zero cost and for zero equity. The Healthcare Leadership Academy will also engage in evidence-based curriculum, which has been designed to address key challenges throughout each phase of the early-stage lifecycle, including discovery, development, deployment, and distribution. At the close of the program, startups will compete for more than $1M in cash prizes at the 2019 MassChallenge Boston Awards held on October 24.

“We are super excited that HLA has been selected for Mass Challenge this year; we believe that this opportunity will position us for even greater impact across Africa”

---Dr Kelechi Ohiri

Through her flagship programmes, i.e. the Healthcare Executives Leadership Programme (HELP), Patient Centred Care Programme (PCC), and Leadership Enhancement and Accountability for the Public Sector Programmes (LEAPS), and State Executives Leadership Programme (SELP), the HLA has directly built the leadership, management and quality improvement capabilities of 258 healthcare professionals.

Of these, at least 173 provide direct patient care,  63 manage healthcare facilities (a mix of both public and private sector);  and 74 work within state governance institutions across the country and are directly involved in health policy formulation or administration; 9 lead/led a state-level ministry of health or health parastatal.

Through cascade training initiatives, the HLA is currently building the leadership and governance capabilities of 60 healthcare administrators/managers in the public sector.

Through conferences, webinars, seminars and workshops, the HLA has reached professionals who cut across health and other sectors, to create increased awareness of quality improvement in health, patient safety and health law, and build leadership capabilities.
